Pancreatic dysfunction may occur in case of indigestion, diarrhoea, bloating, fullness. The pancreatic laboratory package examines pancreatic function from a blood sample (amylase, lipase) and a stool sample (pancreatic-specific elastase).
Items tested in the pancreatic laboratory package
In laboratory package amylase and lipase are tested and a pancreatic-specific elastase enzyme from a stool sample. Amylase is an enzyme involved in the breakdown of polysaccharides (high molecular weight compounds). Polysaccharides are made up of hundreds or thousands of monosaccharides. The two most important polysaccharides are starch and cellulose.
This test measures the amount of elastase 1 enzyme produced by the pancreas in a stool sample and can be used to diagnose pancreatic diseases with insufficient digestive enzyme production. Pancreatic elastase 1 passes through the digestive tract intact, allowing painless enzyme levels to be determined in the stool. Stool pancreatic elastase 1 level content can already show a mild degree of pancreatic insufficiency.
How do I prepare for the test?
Empty stomach is required to perform the test.
When is the result expected?
After the 17th working day after the test.
