CORONAVIRUS PCR TEST

The PCR test available at Medicover is performed in a microbiology laboratory that meets the criteria issued by NNK.

The test detects the RNA of the virus, i.e. the virus itself, at the earliest 1-3 days after infection by examining the genetic characteristics of the virus (PCR, i.e. polymerase chain reaction) from a sample taken from the pharyngeal mucosa. This positivity persists for as long as the disease persists.

The advantage of the test is that the virus can be detected in the early stages of the disease, but it may be performed (at the beginning of the incubation period) when the virus cannot yet be detected in the sample taken, so it may be necessary to repeat the test. The virus disappears from the mucosa after recovery, so in the case of a previous positive test, taken 48 hours apart, two negative results mean recovery.

The test is suitable for confirming a suspicion of the disease, diagnosing the disease and confirming recovery, and examining contacts.

WHEN CAN THE TEST NOT BE PERFORMED?

We would like to inform our dear Customers that we cannot perform the coronavirus test if:

• You are in official domestic quarantine due to infection or illness
• You experience symptoms of the coronavirus (fever, cough, shortness of breath)

In these cases, please do not purchase the service!

If you wish to have a nasal mucosa swab, please be sure to let our colleagues know when booking your appointment!

You will receive the result electronically on the day of sampling.
