During an abdominal and lesser pelvis MRI examination, 2 regions are examined simultaneously. Detailed pictures are taken of the visceral organs (kidneys, liver, spleen, pancreas, abdominal lymph gland area), as well as of the internal genitals (ovaries, uterus, prostate) in the course of the examination.
Before the MRI examination, it is recommended to consult with a gastroenterologist, gynaecologist or urologist, depending on the complaints.
When contrast agent is used for the examination, having a medical referral and a satisfactory kidney function test (creatinine and carbamide) is obligatory. The test results cannot be older than a month. Prior to the test, it is possible to perform a rapid creatinine test on-site, the blood sample is taken from a fingertip.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR THE EXAMINATION?
Please do not eat for 4-6 prior to the examination in order to slow down the peristalsis of the bowels. If the examination focuses on the functioning of the gastrointestinal system, it might be necessary to follow a diet and drink plenty of fluids, but this is decided by the attending physician.
The examination should be taken with a mildly full bladder. For women this helps the visibility of the uterus.
It is important to know that due to the powerful magnetic field, you are not allowed to bring any metals to the examination room, including piercings or other jewellery in the body.
IN WHICH CASES CAN THE EXAMINATION NOT BE PERFORMED?
Please note that we cannot perform the examination in the following cases:
- there is metal in your body (prosthetics, nail, screw, metal valve, pacemaker, tourniquet, implants, anvil dross, etc.) which can be magnetized
- you cannot provide a medical referral for the examination
- in case your kidney function is under 45 eGFR, we cannot perform the examination with contrast agent
- you have severe pain, which makes it impossible to lie still for a longer period
- you have claustrophobia, and cannot stay still in closed places
- you are pregnant, or it is possible that you are pregnant
- you are late for the examination, or do not show up for the examination.
